Middle School Choir
Dear 5th Grade Students and Parents:
I wanted to make certain that you were aware that all 5th Graders can sign up to take 6th
Grade Choir as an elective next year. There is no audition, no pre-screening. Just add it to your
elective choices on the registration sheet.
Participating in Choir allows children to have fun while learning many different kinds of songs
and musical skills. Choir is different from General Music. We spend a lot of time developing
individual music reading skills, ear training and proper singing technique. We give concerts and
perform at school and in the local community, and participate in the CHOIR OLYMPICS.
Students enrolled in Choir will still have the opportunity for a Guided Study, or may take another elective instead of a study hall. There is no fee for joining choir, but students are asked to purchase a Choir T-shirt for approximately $8. The shirt is worn at concerts and is theirs to
keep. Choir students may choose to participate in groups that meet outside of the school day,
including Swing Singers and the newly formed Boomwhacker club.
It is well documented that students who participate in music classes meet more often with
success. The benefits conveyed by music education can be grouped in four categories:
* Success in society * Success in school
* Success in developing intelligence * Success in life
If you are interested in learning more about Choir at Platteville Middle School, please visit send
me an email.

To join choir, please add it to your schedule for next year. That’s it! Hope to hear you
singing next year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Marcia Russell
